We have a few series that wrap up on Wednesday before the shorter docket on Thursday. Come check out what we have cooked up for this slate of games.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – July 8
Boston Red Sox vs. Chicago White Sox
First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Rate Field – Chicago, IL
Broadcast – MLB TV
The Red Sox continue to be my very favorite team when it comes to NRFI spots, and there are two main reasons. The first of which is that they have a treasure trove of young pitching that is carrying them to whatever number of wins they’ll land on. Jake Bennett is the one getting the ball on Wednesday. He rides into town having thrown four straight starts without more than two earned runs given up and having lowered his season ERA to 3.10. While the White Sox are a solid set of bats, I trust Bennett to get us out of the first here.
The second reason why I like Boston in NRFI situations is because their bats are pretty bad. Their 4.06 runs per game ranks 26th in the majors and they’re somehow worse in the first inning. They rank 28th in first inning scoring – only ahead of the Blue Jays and the Padres. Now they’ll have to deal with Davis Martin, which shouldn’t help any of these numbers out. Martin has a 3.08 ERA on the year and has held opponents to two or less in four of his last five starts. That also includes a pair of scoreless outings, which very well could be added to here.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 8: No (TBD)
Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers
First Pitch – 8:05 pm EST
Globe Life Field – Arlington, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV
For our second NRFI, we head to Texas where Mackenzie Gore takes the mound first. He’s had his ups and downs on the year, but he’s got his usual complement of swing and miss stuff. His 104 strikeouts has him in the top 25 of the majors and should help him get through the Angels here. The Angels are a below average team in most offensive metrics, but they are well below the mean when it comes to striking out. They rank 29th in MLB in strikeouts with 9.44 per game. That tendency should help Gore get through the top of the first for the start to our NRFI.
In the bottom of the first, we get the exciting rookie Walbert Urena. The righty enters action on Wednesday with a 3.03 ERA and 75 strikeouts in just 77.2 innings. Apart from one slip up against the Athletics, it’s been since April that he allowed more than three runs in an appearance. That should continue with the way the Rangers are hitting. Not only are they 25th in the majors in run scoring, but they have been held to four or fewer runs in four of their last five games.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 8: No (TBD)
