MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – July 4

Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians

First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Progressive Field – Cleveland, OH
Broadcast – MLB TV

We’ll kick off our holiday NRFI action with Parker Messick on the bump. Messick has been exceptional in his rookie campaign. He enters action on Saturday with just a 2.85 ERA and he ranks in the top 20 of the entire majors in strikeouts. He’s currently fanning more than one per inning and is striking out 8.0 per game over his last three. That’s bad news for a White Sox team that hasn’t been great with the bats recently. Not only are they a below average team in the first inning, but they also have only managed nine total runs over their last three games. Messick should be able to add to that slump.

In the bottom of the first, we get the Guardians at the plate. They are currently one of just four teams that do not average 4.00 runs per game. Not only that, but they also rank in the bottom third in the league in terms of first inning scoring. A date with Sean Burke shouldn’t help matters. Burke is on a solid run with three straight games allowing two runs or less. In that span (19.0 innings), he’s rocking a 1.89 ERA with 22 strikeouts. He should be able to get three quick outs for us.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 4: No (-130)

New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves

First Pitch – 8:08 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, GA
Broadcast – MLB TV

We cashed on this series on Friday and we’re riding yet again.

There was plenty to like from the game on Friday to ride with it again. There were only eight total runs scored in the game and just 15 total hits. Although the Braves scored five runs, they had just five hits. Friday’s action also marks a fourth straight game with the Mets scoring three runs or less. With neither of these offenses clicking right now, it’s a good time to get in on the NRFI.

Not only are the offenses not clicking, but we get a nice upgrade on the bump as well. The Braves go from Grant Holmes to 2024 NL Cy Young winner, Chris Sale. If not for Jacob Misiorowski, his 2.10 ERA and 100+ strikeouts would be garnering more Cy Young discussion. Sean Manaea will be his counterpart for Saturday. He allowed two or less runs in all but one start in June. With as bad as these offenses have been lately, these two should help us cash this ticket.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 4: No (-130)
