Ryan started with the Seattle quarterback room. The guys noted Darnold is out with a quad injury, which leaves Drew Lock and his elbow. Ryan said Lock has struggled with accuracy, and if he can’t go, Jalen Milroe is next. Ryan put Milroe at the level of a Joe Milton caliber player and called that an incredibly low floor for Seattle, even with the Seahawks defense still being the Seahawks defense.
Sean wasn’t scared off. He pointed out that Lock already beat Arizona in a very similar spot, with the Cardinals coming off an upset win as a big road dog. By his count, Seattle is 10-0 straight up and 9-1 against the spread in its last 10 games against Arizona. He also doubted anyone on the Cardinals can cover Seattle’s top receiver, who he said went for 155 yards and three touchdowns against them with Lock throwing.
Then Sean turned to Gardner Minshew, fresh off a come-from-behind win and now on a second straight road trip. Sean cited Minshew at 3-9 against the spread off a win as a dog and the Cardinals at 6-13 against the spread following a win. He called the Minshew experience a rollercoaster that is great on the way up and always comes back down. When Ryan said Minshew has had some good stretches, Sean said they were competent at best and reminded him they have a division flowchart for a reason. Ryan’s answer was that Minshew and Milroe aren’t normally on that flowchart.
Ryan closed with his own number. Since 2016, he said, the Seahawks have been home favorites of 8.5 or more against Arizona three times and covered once. Sean countered that Seattle covered 8.5 the last time these teams met. Ryan granted the point and said he would have taken the points anyway.
