A Washington State team breaking in a new play caller on a short week, heading up to the elevation in Logan, UT, was too good a spot to fade. Utah State was a 5.5-point favorite when the guys taped on October 6, and all three laid the 5.5 with Utah State in this one, which kicks off Friday, October 9 at 6:00 PM PT / 9:00 PM ET. The full breakdown is on the College Football Picks Week 6 episode.

Our Picks
- Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric): Utah State -5.5
- Sean Green (@SeanTGreen): Utah State -5.5
- Colby Dant (@thecolbyd): Utah State -5.5
Colby got the first word and set the scene: two one-win teams that are probably better than their records, playing Pac-12 After Dark on Merlin Olsen Field. He noted that Washington State’s head coach, Kirby Moore, is taking over play calling from his offensive coordinator, and he wasn’t sure the offense gets any better for it. His bigger point was Utah State’s schedule. Utah State has been through road trips at Washington, at Utah and at Boise, and Colby doubts many teams would have a win in that stretch. They did lose the opener to Idaho State, which he called a good FCS team, but he thinks the team has come along, says they almost beat Washington, and calls this a Bronco Mendenhall smash spot. He also likes the over.
Sean admitted he wanted to talk himself into a dog on Friday and couldn’t. Changing play callers on a short week, redoing the offense, and then playing at altitude in Logan added up to trouble for him, so he took Utah State laying the points.
Ryan called the elevation the handicap here, and added that what he has watched of Washington State tells him they are not a team you can trust. He usually handicaps the handicapper when Colby backs Mendenhall, given the history there. Not this time. Washington State is in his do-not-trust pile, so he’ll lay whatever it takes against them.
