Colby took the venue question head on. Houston has already played at Texas Tech and at Georgia Southern, so this is the Cougars’ third road game, and he argued plenty of teams on this slate haven’t seen a truly hostile environment yet. He admitted Houston looked bad the week before and may have been looking ahead to this game, but liked that they rallied when they had to. His bottom line: Houston is the better team, and he has them winning outright.

He also flagged that Kansas State’s pass defense numbers come with an asterisk, since the Wildcats haven’t faced real quarterback play yet and this will be the best passer they’ve seen all year. One of the guys added that Houston leads the Big 12 against the run, allowing 2.6 yards per carry, and said he can’t trust Kansas State as a favorite even coming off a bye.

Ryan was on Houston too. He shared a listener’s note that Kansas State is 0-4 when its quarterback has to throw 35 or more passes, and called the Wildcats a frustrating team to watch, one that should be better than it is, possibly because of the offensive line.

Then Colby played his trump card. Houston coach Willie Fritz is a Kansas native, and Colby put up an old photo from Fritz’s playing days, mohawk and enormous shoulder pads included. He was not about to fade that guy in his home state.
