Alabama was a 1.5-point favorite with a total of 54.5 when the guys taped on October 6, and two of the three voices laid that short number.

The Georgia case came first. Nobody is talking about the Bulldogs, the argument went, they are flying low, and they are going to beat up Alabama. There was even a futures angle: if you like Georgia here, look at their title prices now, because a win would shorten them fast.
Colby wasn’t buying it. Alabama looks awesome to him and Georgia has played nobody, so he has no idea what Georgia actually is yet. He likes Kirby Smart as a coach but not against Alabama, where the show had him at 2-7, and he pointed to a pass defense that slipped last year, brought up the Vandy game, and isn’t sure Georgia has fixed it. The teams on Georgia’s schedule so far weren’t good enough to exploit it. Alabama is. The second Alabama vote was right there with him: Alabama has been a game wrecker every time out, its quarterback can attack exactly what Georgia has struggled with, and the Tide are at home at a short price.
The Georgia side had an answer. The last time the stakes were this high, with a title on the line late last season, Georgia won, though that one was on a neutral field. The guys went back and forth on the head-to-head with Alabama’s current coach and landed on Kirby Smart being 1-2 against him, with Georgia winning the most recent meeting. The Alabama side read that as a revenge spot.
Then there was the weather. A tropical storm had people asking whether the game moves to the dome in Atlanta. The guys found a Tuscaloosa News report saying there were no plans to change anything, but agreed a move would be a huge swing, since an Atlanta crowd would be mostly Georgia fans. If you bet it, read your book’s rules, because a location change can void the ticket.
