Colby opened by treating the Bison, along with James Madison, as proof that the best programs to come out of the FCS can hang with anybody. He ran through their scores: 33-7, 38-0, 31-10 over Sac State, a 28-0 shutout, and a 38-32 game with Air Force that he said was closer on paper than on the field, since North Dakota State led by three touchdowns before Air Force dressed it up.

He gave UNLV its due. The Rebels looked great against Cal, and Colby thinks Mullen has the offense going. But that was a Power Five win, and now UNLV gets a team that will run straight at it for four quarters. Colby called it a painful style of football and wasn’t sure the UNLV defense is ready for it. The guys backed that up with numbers from the show: UNLV ranks 85th in EPA rush allowed and 83rd in defensive success rate, while North Dakota State sits third in the country on defense.

Then there is the crowd. It is the first meeting between the two programs, and one of the guys cited an article saying Bison fans could make up half the stadium or more on a trip to Vegas. He admitted North Dakota State is, by his count, 5-0 against the spread, the kind of run that usually makes you nervous, and laid the 3.5 anyway.
