Our Picks
- Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric): Kentucky +9.5
- Sean Green (@SeanTGreen): Kentucky +9.5
- Colby Dant (@thecolbyd): Kentucky +9.5
The knock on LSU is who they’ve beaten. The guys made the point that the deeper you look at the Tigers’ schedule, the less it holds up, with Clemson and Texas A&M both turning out to be weaker than expected. Kentucky, meanwhile, earned some respect for its first half against Alabama. The second half got away from them, but the read on the show was that new coach Will Stein is learning from that game.
There’s a letdown angle too. Kentucky is coming off a wild overtime comeback a week earlier, and the guys flagged that as a reason the Wildcats might fade late. That’s why one take on the show was that Kentucky on the first-half money line might be the better play, with the full-game +9.5 as the fallback.
Sean stopped short of calling it a lock. It was more a case of every arrow pointing at the home team, the market included, and the guys were happy to see they had landed on the sharp side. Kentucky is also wearing its throwback Power K helmet logo for the game, a look the program used from the 1970s into the ’90s.
