Our Picks
- Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric): Iowa +3.5
- Sean Green (@SeanTGreen): Iowa +3.5
- Colby Dant (@thecolbyd): Iowa +3.5
Colby admitted he normally hates backing a team on a long road trip like this one. He’s making an exception because he thinks Washington’s locker room is a mess. He pointed to the head coach chasing other jobs and the quarterback’s contract drama, and said he was surprised Washington covered against USC the week before. The guys agreed that result said more about USC’s tackling than about Washington.
Iowa is coming off two physical games in a row, including a tough loss to Ohio State that didn’t cover. The guys still read it as a bounce-back spot and cited the Hawkeyes’ 5-0-1 run against the spread as a single-digit underdog. Colby trusts the coaching edge, and he thinks Iowa’s culture is intact.
The quarterback is the swing factor. Iowa’s starter got banged up and left the game. Colby isn’t worried: Iowa fans have been calling for the backup to start since the opening weeks, and Sean thought he looked fine in relief. The chat pushed back with the short week and the trip west, and the guys heard it out. Then Iowa went into the lock pile anyway.
