College Football Picks Week 6 podcast

College Football Picks Week 6 Recap

Sean Green (@SeanTGreen) and Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric) are joined by Colby Dant for College Football Picks Week 6, with Texas vs. Oklahoma and Georgia at Alabama headlining a packed card. It ends with Sean Green (@SeanTGreen) locking Oklahoma plus 8.5 and Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric) taking Kentucky on the moneyline.

A Fake Mr. T And A Field Goal Nobody Saw

Colby Dant (@thecolbyd) joins Sean Green (@SeanTGreen) and Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric) fresh from ACC Media Day for college basketball, wearing a Tecmo Super Bowl medallion he insists beats any conference hardware. Kramer isn’t buying it after watching Colby’s gameplay against Sean. Then the guys replay the fake Mr. T Cameo that Colby fell for a few years back, when he never clicked on the sample videos. The last contest week went 3-4, but Sean says there’s plenty of time to get right.

Then Kramer has to answer for Virginia Tech, which laid 3.5 at home and came up short. He blames bad situational play calling and an officiating crew that threw flags freely. He also can’t believe a simultaneous catch got ruled an interception. The missed field goal is the bigger fight, though. Kramer’s fix starts with cameras below the uprights and lasers on the goalposts, and he swears the official under the post never looked up. Colby wants a camera on every goal line, period. Kramer’s closer is hard to argue with. Billions of dollars flow through this sport, and nobody can mount a couple GoPros?

Kennesaw State, UTSA And A Louisville Discount

The card opens Wednesday with Jacksonville State laying 2.5 at Kennesaw State. The Owls are +122 on the moneyline and the total sits at 48.5. Colby calls it a rematch of last year’s Conference USA title game and likes Kennesaw to win outright. Their losses came to Tennessee, a surprisingly strong Georgia State and Arkansas State, and they covered against two of them. Sean respects that Jacksonville State has won 15 straight as a favorite. But the number opened at 3.5 and dropped to 2.5, and Kramer reads that as sharp money on the home side. So all three take Kennesaw State +2.5, and Kramer says to shop for a 3.

Thursday brings South Florida to San Antonio, with UTSA laying 7.5 (-285) and the total at 50.5. Colby calls it a smash. He thinks South Florida is a phony unbeaten team. They barely got past Florida International, trailed Army most of the game and beat a Bowling Green team that lost to an FCS school. UTSA is also 37-6 at home since COVID, and Colby likes the over 50.5 too. Sean lays the 7.5 as well. Kramer checks the splits, sees 78% of the tickets and 86% of the money on UTSA, and takes South Florida plus the points. His argument is short. They play defense.

Louisville hosts Florida State laying 3.5 (-188) with a 59.5 total, and nobody loves either side at first. Sean hates backing Florida State off a big road win. He also worries about a Louisville pass defense ranked 130th of 138 FBS teams. Colby lays it anyway because he thinks Florida State is still fake. He also argues the pass numbers look worse than reality because Louisville has already faced quarterbacks like Trinidad Chambliss and Gio Lopez. Then Kramer points out the line opened at 6 before Florida State money pushed it down. That makes 3.5 a discount, so all three lay it with Louisville.

Friday Night In Logan And Seattle

Washington State heads to Logan with Utah State laying 5.5 (-215) and a 43.5 total. Colby calls it a Bronco Mendenhall smash. Both teams have one win, but Utah State has survived a brutal road stretch and probably should have beaten Washington. Sean seals it with the altitude. Logan sits at 4,710 feet, and Washington State just handed play calling to Kirby Moore on a short week. That’s trouble. Kramer has the Cougars in his do-not-trust pile, so all three lay the points. Colby also likes the over. Along the way, Kramer looks up Merlin Olsen, the field’s namesake, and reports 14 Pro Bowls in 15 seasons.

Iowa heads to Seattle with Washington laying 2.5 on the sheet, though Kramer now sees 3.5 at most spots, and the total is 41.5. Hank Brown got banged up against Ohio State, and that’s driving the move. Colby doesn’t care. Iowa fans spent weeks asking for Jeremy Hecklinski anyway, and Colby thinks the Washington locker room is a mess after the coach chased the Florida and Michigan jobs. Sean thought Hecklinski looked fine in relief and calls it a bounce-back spot. Kramer then tosses it in the lock pile once the chat starts pushing back. All three take Iowa +3.5.

College Football Picks Week 6 Look-Ahead Spots In Provo And Lincoln

BYU hosts Iowa State laying 10.5, with the Cyclones +310 and a 46.5 total. Colby admits it’s the game he trusts least so far. But BYU has Notre Dame on deck, a game some of their fans call the biggest in program history. The Cougars also won last week with only 216 yards of offense. He sees two mirror-image teams and maybe an ugly finish, so he takes the Cyclones and likes the under too. Sean worries about Bear Bachmeier running on Iowa State, then takes the points for the look-ahead anyway. Kramer follows with a pizza joke at BYU’s expense and Iowa State +10.5.

Indiana visits Nebraska laying 7.5 (-315), with the Huskers +250 and a 50.5 total. Sean can’t ignore the ATS records. Indiana is 1-4 against the number and Nebraska is 4-1, so he takes Nebraska +7.5 and counts on a back door if the Huskers trail by two scores. Colby lays it all day. He remembers Cignetti beating Matt Rhule 56-7 in year one, and he didn’t like what Nebraska showed against Ohio or Maryland. Kramer joins him because Cignetti never falls for the look-ahead, even with Ohio State next. As Kramer puts it, this is the game where Rhule gets his ship pushed in.

Rich Rod Revenge And James Houston Upset Call

Arizona travels to West Virginia laying 3.5 (-162), with the Mountaineers +134 and a 61.5 total. Rich Rodriguez gets a revenge game against the school that gave him the boot and still paid him $6.3 million. Sean takes West Virginia +3.5. Arizona is missing all three starting receivers, and West Virginia is 4-0 ATS in its last four games after allowing more than 40 points. Colby is terrified of Noah Fifita against a defense its own coordinator called the worst in the nation. He also notes Arizona has never been to Morgantown. Kramer goes the other way and lays the 3.5 with Arizona.

Houston visits Kansas State as a 2.5-point dog at +115, with the total at 55.5. Colby says Houston wins outright. Willie Fritz is from Kansas, and the Cougars have already played road games at Texas Tech and Georgia Southern. Sean can’t trust Kansas State as a favorite, even off a bye. He also likes a Houston run defense that leads the Big 12 at 2.6 yards per attempt. Kramer brings a chat nugget too. Kansas State is 0-4 when Avery Johnson throws 35 or more passes. So everybody takes Houston, and the Cougars show up again later as a teaser leg.

ACC Saturday Means Fading Narduzzi

Wake Forest goes to Raleigh laying 3.5 (-178), with NC State +146 and a 59.5 total. Colby is all in on Gio Lopez, who ran for 80 yards last week. He thinks Wake is playing the best ball in the ACC outside Miami, and he credits a staff full of North Dakota State guys. Sean notes NC State has won 10 of its last 12 at home. But he fades the Wolfpack off the big Louisville win and leans into Lopez. Kramer calls Wake the wrong team favorite and takes NC State as the home dog.

Pitt hosts North Carolina laying 3.5 (-176) with a 47.5 total, and the Panthers are without starting quarterback Heintschel, who is out for the season. Colby likes Carolina on the moneyline. Narduzzi grabbed a mic after the Virginia Tech win and complained about not being ranked, and then the injury news hit. Sean sees the UNC defense turning this into a field goal game against a backup. Kramer’s system is also short. Fade Locksley, and never lay points with Narduzzi. So all three take North Carolina +3.5.

Red River Points, UCLA Points And Two Passing Props

Texas lays 8.5 (-360) against Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl, with the Sooners +280 and a 39.5 total. Colby calls it the true foxhole spot. Oklahoma had two weeks to prepare, and he takes the points with a sprinkle on the moneyline. Sean adds that Arch Manning is 0-4 ATS as a road favorite, and he expects a touchdown game. Then Kramer checks the splits. Texas has 85% of the bets but only 34% of the dollars. That puts the guys on the sharp side with Oklahoma +8.5.

Oregon lays 11.5 (-465) to UCLA, which is +350 on the moneyline, with a 58.5 total. Dan Moore Jr. is questionable. Colby loves UCLA if Moore plays against his former team, and he gets nervous if Dylan Raiola starts. Colby and Sean both like the revenge angle for Bob Chesney and the JMU starters Oregon beat up. Sean even coins a line for it. You can’t give Bob “Kenny” Chesney 11.5 points. Kramer thinks Raiola is the better passer but still calls the number crazy. All three take UCLA, and both hosts later lock it.

On the pick’em side, Colby takes Owen McCown over 229.5 passing yards. His reasoning is that South Florida padded its pass defense numbers against a service academy. He also takes Fifita over 288.5 passing yards against that West Virginia defense. Sean plays both. Kramer fades McCown but tails Fifita, whose last three games went 325, 297 and 284. The $100 entry pays $350.

Bison In Vegas, Power K In Lexington

North Dakota State visits UNLV laying 3.5 (-156), with the Rebels +130 and a 48.5 total. Colby says the Bison prove how good the top of the FCS is. He doesn’t think the UNLV defense is ready for a team that runs right down your throat. Sean has UNLV 85th in EPA rush allowed and 83rd in defensive success rate. Kramer also expects North Dakota State fans to fill half the building or more, and he’s a sucker for a fan base taking over a stadium. All three lay the 3.5 with the Bison.

LSU lays 9.5 (-335) at Kentucky, with the Wildcats +265 and a 52.5 total. Colby is buying Will Stein’s culture. He liked the first half against Alabama, likes how Kenny Minshew has played, and thinks the LSU resume looks thinner now that Clemson and Texas A&M don’t look good. Sean is on Kentucky too and points out the Wildcats will wear the throwback Power K. Then Kramer checks the money. Kentucky has 34% of the tickets and 84% of the dollars, so the sharps agree. Everyone takes Kentucky +9.5.

Penn State lays 1.5 (-114) to USC in a whiteout, with a 54.5 total, a week after giving up 415 rushing yards to Northwestern. Colby takes Penn State as a mileage play because USC has struggled going east. They lost at Maryland and nearly lost to Rutgers. Sean is on Penn State too, citing the extra day to prepare and the home crowd. Kramer goes USC and calls Matt Campbell a horrible hire, with a few choice words for the Penn State fans who mocked the Virginia Tech loss.

Georgia, Alabama And The Battle For The Milk Can

Alabama lays 1.5 (-118) against Georgia (-102) with a 54.5 total, and Kramer calls it the only game he cares about this weekend. He takes Georgia. Nobody is talking about the Dawgs, he can’t trust Kalen DeBoer, and Georgia won the playoff meeting last year. Colby and Sean both lay it with Alabama. Colby says Georgia has played nobody, and Sean has Kirby Smart at 2-7 against Alabama. Weather is the wild card. There was talk of moving the game to Atlanta because of a tropical storm. So Kramer reminds everyone that a location change can void the bet, and to read the rules at your book.

Boise State visits Fresno State laying 6.5 (-240), with the Bulldogs +195 and a 48.5 total, and the Milk Can is on the line. Fresno has won the last three, and Spencer Danielson sounded heated about it in his press conference. That’s enough for Colby, who lays it with Boise and also calls Fresno the best college football environment in California. Sean takes Boise too after watching them destroy Western Michigan. Kramer goes the other way with Fresno as a home dog, and he recommends grabbing a kebab while you’re in town.

Locks, Dogs, Teasers And A Battleship Contest Card

Colby locks Indiana -7.5, UTSA -7.5, West Virginia and Kentucky +9.5, then names Oklahoma his dog to win outright. His teasers move North Carolina up to 9.5, Houston up to 8.5 and Boise down to -0.5. Sean locks Oklahoma +8.5, UCLA +11.5, Iowa +3.5 and Alabama -1.5. He takes UNC at +146 as his moneyline dog. Then he teases UCLA to 17.5, Utah State to +0.5, Boise to -0.5 and West Virginia to 9.5.

Kramer locks UCLA, Indiana, Georgia and Fresno State +6.5, with Kentucky on the moneyline as his dog. His teasers take Houston to 8.5, Iowa to 9.5 and USC to 7.5. The guys round-robin Kentucky, UNC and Oklahoma. Then Colby and Sean fade Kramer with a West Virginia, Penn State and Alabama parlay, and Kramer answers with Georgia, USC and Arizona. Because last week’s consensus card went 3-4, the contest picks become a draft. The card is UTSA -7.5, Alabama -1.5, Fresno State +6.5, West Virginia +3.5, Oklahoma +8.5, USC +1.5 and Kentucky +9.5. That’s five dogs and two favorites.
