College Football Picks Week 1 Part 1 Recap

Sean Green (@SeanTGreen) and Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric) are handing out college football week 1 picks. It is Part 1 of the opening-weekend slate, loaded with best bets and predictions. They are joined by Colby Dant (@TheColbyD) of The College Football Experience. Then the crew runs the full board and closes with their locks, teases, and parlays. This is the weekday half of the opener. It covers the Thursday and Friday games. The full Saturday slate waits for Part 2 tomorrow night, once Labor Day weekend piles the schedule up. Colby is still resting his voice after a long Vegas weekend spent scouting the same board. Even so, the three of them work down seventeen games together. They rarely land on the same side twice, and that back-and-forth is half the fun of a week 1 show.

Rutgers Opens Against A Live UMass Dog

Greg Schiano hosts UMass on Thursday. The number stops the crew cold. Rutgers lays 28 and a half, the total sits at 51 and a half, and UMass sits out near 22-to-1 on the moneyline. The pick leans on UMass head coach Joe Harasymiak, who once ran the defense at Rutgers and knows the building. It also leans on a new Rutgers quarterback, Boston College transfer Dylan Lonergan, who still has to build chemistry with a receiver room he barely knows. All three take the points. UMass plus 28 and a half becomes one of the show’s official locks.

Colby Breaks From The Pack And Lays Miami At Stanford

The marquee number on the board sends Miami cross-country to Palo Alto. Miami lays 24 and a half, with the total at 47 and a half. Sean and Ryan both side with the road dog. They point to how competitive Stanford looked into the fourth quarter of its Hawaii cover the week before, and to Miami’s cross-country body clock for a 9 p.m. Eastern kickoff. Colby goes the other way. He lays the number, betting that Miami’s speed on defense erases whatever ground-and-pound plan Stanford borrowed from Samford. Stanford plus 24 and a half lands as a lock for both Sean and Ryan. Colby, meanwhile, stays with the Canes.

College Football Week 1 Picks: The Locks, Teases And Parlays

Sean’s card runs Michigan State giving 9 and a half at Toledo, San Jose State on the moneyline as a home dog, and UMass plus 28 and a half. Ryan counters with Oklahoma giving 41 and a half at UTEP, Illinois giving 27 and a half over UAB, and Stanford plus 24 and a half. Colby adds UMass as his own fourth lock, the one number he can agree with the rest of the room on.

From there, the parlay talk gets loud. Sean and Ryan pair the UMass and Albany moneylines into what they call a “classic nor’easter.” A hundred dollars on that ticket pays $34,400. Ryan then builds a separate round robin off the Stanford, Fresno State, and San Jose State moneylines to chase it. It is a lot of Thursday and Friday value for a slate most of the country still is not watching, and that is exactly the point.
