College Football Picks Week 0 Recap

Sean Green (@SeanTGreen) and Ryan Kramer (@KramerCentric) open the season with their College Football Picks for Week 0, joined by Colby Dant (@TheColbyD) of The College Football Experience. It is a strange, wonderful corner of the calendar. A full slate of games shows up before most of the sport does, and the crew works every one. They start in the depths of the schedule on Wednesday afternoon, then climb toward the Friday night finale in Las Vegas, breaking down a side on every game along the way.

The Week 0 Marquee: North Carolina At TCU In Dublin

The headliner sends everyone across the pond to Ireland, where North Carolina catches seven and a half at TCU. All three landed on the Tar Heels, both the spread and the money line. The logic stacks up nicely. The number crosses the key seven, Bobby Petrino runs the offense with an experienced quarterback, and a Belichick defense should keep this closer than the market expects. Meanwhile, TCU walks in with its own baggage. A practice fight cost the Horned Frogs a starting safety and left a receiver in the hospital, so this one is messier than the line suggests.

Working Down The Week 0 Board

From there the board fills out with the season’s early risers. USC lays a massive number on San Jose State in Los Angeles. Florida State hosts New Mexico State in a get-right spot in Tallahassee. NC State travels to Virginia in an ACC opener the guys liked all week. The FCS undercard is where the crew really earns its money. Stony Brook opens the whole slate against Delaware State, and from there it is a run of basketball-score matchups. Rhode Island at Merrimack, William and Mary at Villanova, Weber State at Northern Colorado, and Idaho at Cal Poly all get a side.

The Saturday window keeps the value coming. Memphis travels to UNLV in the lone FBS-versus-FBS matchup on the card, a game both hosts think has real juice with fresh coaching on each sideline. Hawaii also makes the long trip to Stanford, Jacksonville State visits North Dakota State in Fargo, and Sacramento State heads to Eastern Michigan. Southern Utah at Montana closes things out in Missoula. Colby had an angle on all of them, and the crew came away with a side on games most of the country will never watch.

College Football Picks Week 0 Best Bets

When it came time for locks, the room split in fun ways. Ryan hammered Eastern Michigan, NC State, and Florida State. Sean leaned on Cal Poly, Stanford, and the Tar Heels. Colby stacked North Dakota State, Florida State, and Eastern Michigan. The dogs all pointed the same direction. North Carolina and NC State went on the money line, and the group tied those two together for a plus 866 parlay before running it back as a round robin with Memphis. From there, the teasers dragged the big chalk down to safer numbers, pulling Florida State, USC, and Eastern Michigan across the key markers.

It is a lot of Week 0 action for a card most people did not know existed, which is exactly the point.
