As the hot month of July comes to a close, College Football is just around the corner. The SEC is one of the hottest football conferences every season, and 2026 looks to be no different. As we continue to preview every team and every conference here on the SGPN network, the SEC is up next. Let’s continue our journey through the College Football 2026 SEC Conference preview.
In 2025, the SEC once again lived up to the hype of being one of the best conferences in the nation. The Georgia Bulldogs were once again the best team in the Southeastern Conference. They finished the year 12-1 and defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide 28-7 in the Conference Championship game. Five SEC teams made the College Football Playoff. Led by Georgia as the conference champions, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Alabama were the qualifiers. Ole Miss was the surprise SEC school in the big dance. They defeated Tulane, then slayed Georgia, before narrowly losing to Miami in the Semifinals.
Vanderbilt was one of the biggest heartthrob stories of 2025. Led by Heisman Trophy Finalist Diego Pavia, the Commodores, a perennial doormat in the league, won 10 games and ended the year ranked in the Top 25. The Tigers of LSU, who had playoff aspirations, were the biggest SEC disappointment of the year. Finishing the season just 7-5 overall.

2026 SEC Conference Best Bets
Oklahoma Over 7.5 Wins (-140)
Brent Venables is building something special in Norman. He’s now had 10 wins twice in his four seasons, and did so last year in just their second year in the SEC. Not only did he win a lot of games, but he also took the next step, and the Sooners played in the College Football Playoffs. The team fell to fellow SEC opponent Alabama, but had a good showing nonetheless. The expectations in Norman are no less this year. Senior quarterback John Mateer is back to once again lead the team. The dual-threat stud was key to Oklahoma making the Playoff last year. His favorite weapon, wide receiver Isiah Sategna, returns as well.
The Sooners didn’t sleep in the off-season, making key transfer portal additions to help bolster another run in 2026. Their defense is back and better than ever. It may be the stronger unit on this solid team. Expectations are to compete for an SEC title and College Football Playoff berth, but all we need is eight wins. Sign me up.
Florida Over 7.5 Wins (+125)
Jon Sumrall showed everyone what he was made of when he stuck with his team through their College Football Playoff game instead of abandoning them. He overhauled a Gator team that struggled in 2025, with 20+ transfer portal players. Most of whom are coming from Power Four schools. The talent will be there, and Florida has the resources. Sumrall has immediately turned every program he’s touched around. At Troy, he won 12 games in year one, and at Tulane nine. He’s had double-digit wins in three of his four years as a head coach, and seems to have the chops. The SEC won’t be easy, but I believe Sumrall was the right man for the job, and he’ll put together a tough, scrappy team from day one.
Georgia to Win SEC (+275)
Taking the chalk and running here seems to be the best play. It’s Kirby Smart’s era and we’re just living in it. The Georgia head coach is building an empire, and he learned from the best in Nick Saban on how to do it. This is the most stable team in the conference, maybe the country. Replacing NFL talent is a big concern, but it’s a concern every year, and Smart doesn’t blink. Year two of Gunnar Stockton should be even better. He led the team to 12 wins and a title in year one. Georgia is the team you can count on the most to just be there. At almost 3/1 odds, they are worth a bet.
