New Orleans Saints at Kansas City Chiefs Preview and Predictions

Week 5 wraps up with a Monday Night Football matchup featuring Derek Carr and the New Orleans Saints taking on Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs. The only Monday Night game this week after two weeks of doubleheaders, this one will kick off at 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN. Let’s take a look at this Saints-Chiefs preview.

The New Orleans Saints started the season with a bang hanging up 47 points in Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers and then following it up with 44 points in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys. Their offense cooled off in Week 3 and 4 as they dropped close games to the Eagles and Falcons. They enter this game at 2-2.

The Kansas City Chiefs are one of only two teams (Vikings) that enter Week 5 undefeated. None of their wins have been big blowout victories, but in very Chief-like fashion they’ve taken care of business each week. They outlasted Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in Week 1. Week 2 was a thriller against Cincinnati where the Chiefs walked it off to win by one. They followed it up with wins against the Falcons and Chargers.

Kansas City Chiefs -5.5 (-110)

Derek Carr formerly quarterbacked the Oakland and LAs Vegas Raiders in the Chiefs division, so he’s faced the team plenty of times before. Unfortunately for him, his record against the Chiefs is just 3-15 straight up. The first two weeks of the offensive explosion were very impressive and showed what this Saints team is capable of.

However, now you come to Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes’ house on a Monday night in front of the entire world with an extra day to prepare? Sorry Derek Carr and Dennis Allen, I just don’t think it’ll be enough to beat the Chiefs, and I’d expect them to win by about a touchdown at the end of the day.

Travis Kelce Over 5.5 Receptions (-101)

With Rashee Rice sidelined for likely the rest of the season, the Chiefs are going to have to move their offense through someone else. Lucky for them, they have one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history Travis Kelce on their team. Monday night, under the lights, Taylor Swift will probably be in the house. The Chiefs are going to look at hyper-targeting Travis Kelce on Monday.

In Week 3 with no AJ Brown, the Eagles did just this with Dallas Goedert and he’s still running away from Saints defenders. Goedert was targeted 11 times. He caught 10 passes for 170 yards. I’d also consider laddering Kelce’s receiving yards up to 110+ at 9/1 odds. Travis Kelce is going to remind everyone why he’s the best tight end in the league Monday night.
