The battle of the two Pennsylvania teams gave us a solid pitchers’ duel on Tuesday and an easy NRFI cash. Now, we have some NRFI bets for July 1.
Wednesday closes out a few series, but they should give us plenty to look back at to find the gems for the day. Come check out what we have cooked up for this slate of games.

MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – July 1
Washington Nationals vs. Boston Red Sox
First Pitch – 1:35 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Broadcast – MLB TV
Kicking off this NRFI is one of our favorite guys for first inning glory. Payton Tolle has been a stabilizing force for an otherwise rough Red Sox squad. He carries a 2.78 ERA into action on Wednesday and is up to 69 strikeouts in 71.1 innings on the year. He’ll face a Nationals team that has been one of the best in the league at scoring runs this year. However, they have fallen off in the last week or so. Over their last four games, they’ve scored just 14 total runs (or 3.50 per game). That number would have them near the bottom of the league, which is one of the reasons to love this spot.
Another reason we love a Payton Tolle start for NRFI action is that the Red Sox have to hit in the other half of the inning. Despite their recent winning streak, the Red Sox are amongst the worst hitting teams in the majors. Their 4.02 runs per game has them in 27th overall in the league, and they are even worse in the first inning. With just 0.35 first inning runs scored per game, they rank only better than the Padres.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 1: No (TBD)
Minnesota Twins vs. Houston Astros
First Pitch – 8:10 pm EST
Daikin Field – Houston, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV
Minnesota gets first rips in this one. While they are an above average team in most hitting metrics, this is far more about tailing the pitcher than it is about fading them. Tatsuya Imai is on a wild hot streak right now. His reverse slider seems to have found life yet again and the result is that he’s striking everyone out. In his last two starts, he’s logged 12.0 innings and fanned 21. That’s all while giving up just eight total hits and three runs. If that version of Imai is here on Wednesday, he should breeze through the first innings.
In the bottom of the first, we get a bit of a dropoff with the bats. The Astros are a middle of the pack team when it comes to scoring and they aren’t doing much better lately. To add to that, they have to face Taj Bradley, who is on a bit of a run himself. His last two starts have seen him give up just 0.50 hits per innings while posting a 3.00 ERA. Although that’s a small sample size, it did drop his season ERA down under 4.00, which shows that he’s been a lot better this year. He should be able to get us some quick outs so this can cash.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 1: No (TBD)
