Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – July 6

Yordan Alvarez – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

On the 4th of July we took a look at this same exact line due to how hot Alvarez has been. However, the Blue Jays pitched around him for the majority of the game, putting him on three times without the chance to swing the bat. While he has now made it two straight without reaching this projection, he did exceed it in six of the seven games before that. He’ll also get a favorable pitching matchup on Saturday.

To kick off the weekend, he’ll face Joe Ryan. The two have faced off 11 times in their career with Alvarez going 4-for-10. The most promising of those numbers is the fact that three of those hits are dingers. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get this projection in the first inning.

Rafael Devers – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

Gerrit Cole may have settled in during his last start, but he’s still rocking a 6.23 ERA on the season. Additionally, he shouldn’t be happy to see Devers standing across from him. They’ve seen each other 45 times in their respective careers and Devers is 12-for-38 (.316). While that line is good, it doesn’t stand out on it’s own. However, like Alvarez, the beauty is in the power of this matchup. Of Devers’ 12 hits, seven of them are home runs, yielding a .895 slugging percentage. Like Alvarez, I think he should get this with just one swing at some point during the game.

Vinnie Pasquantino – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

He might not be bagging many extra bases lately, but Pasquantino has plenty of hits lately. He’s nabbed more than one in a game in five of his last seven games – which includes a three hit game in Cleveland. That means in that seven-game span, he has 12 hits. Facing the high elevation of Coors Field and the finicky arm of Austin Gomber, he should be able to extend one of those hits for extra bases.
