Ryan opened by calling 11.5 a ridiculous number and asking whether anyone had watched the games. Then he put the question to Colby: who starts for Oregon? Colby said Dante Moore was questionable at taping. If Moore plays, Colby loves UCLA, because he figures Moore wants to stick it to his former team, and when Ryan said Moore isn’t that good, Colby said that’s exactly why he likes the handicap. Ryan was blunter. He sees Moore as a slow processor and said he never thought he’d say UCLA has the better quarterback in this game.

The backup is where it gets uncomfortable. Colby admitted it turns dicey if he starts, since the offense looked smoother with him in, and he raised the idea that Oregon could catch the kind of run teams sometimes go on after losing their starter. Sean called that the scary scenario too, but said Oregon isn’t quite there yet.

The coaching angle sealed it. Colby pointed out that Bob Chesney and the JMU starters got beaten badly in Eugene before, so there’s a revenge element, and he rates Chesney a top-five coach when he gets time to prepare, and he has two weeks for this one. Sean’s version: you can’t give Bob Chesney 11.5 points. Ryan said he’d bet a million dollars Lanning gets out-adjusted at halftime, and noted Oregon has Nebraska on deck.
