Dana White’s Contender Series Week 10 – Predictions & Best Bets
Wes Schultz (-190) vs. Mario Mingaj
There is some great value on the early fight of the final week. Schultz failed to secure a victory his first time on Contender Series, but that was largely due to facing Mansur Abdul Malik, who has gone on to look impressive in the UFC. Schultz hung with him early and had his moments in the grappling. That should bode well for him against Mingaj, who largely settles into bottom positions looking for triangles.
Jovan Leka (+115) vs. Azamat Nuftillaev
Leka is a fighter who I think has a lot of potential at heavyweight. For a big man, he moves very well on his feet. He’s quick and has a stabbing front kick to go along with some very fundemental defense. That should be enough against Nuftillaev, who fights with his hands down in almost all of his fights.
Michael Oliveira (-205) vs. Victor Valenzuela
Oliveira is a big power guy from LFA. He’s dropped fighters with jabs and put them out with authority and hooks. While the hands lead the dance, that power transfers to the kicks as well. When he throws a leg kick, you can tell how badly it affects his opponent. Now he’ll get a brawler who is open to be hit early and often. I’ve seen Valenzuela dropped by guys with far less power than Oliveira brings to the table.
Marwan Rahiki (-220) vs. Ananias Mulumba
This is one line that I’m not thrilled about on Tuesday. While I ultimately think Rahiki will win the fight, there are some areas of concern that make it hard to get there on a worse than 2-to-1 pricetag. His hands will undoubtedly be much better and he’ll be way faster. However, Mulumba has some nice inside trips and solid top control. Rahiki will have to avoid some of that to let his hands go.
Juan Díaz (-105) vs. Won Il Kwon
In the past fights I’ve seen for Kwon, he’s shown issues with his defense. Both his chin and submission defense has been exploited in the past and that should be music to Diaz’s ears. His jiu jistu is slick and he gets to work quick with it. Additionally, he puts a pace on fighters that most others can’t keep up with.
Levi Rodrigues (-150) vs. Freddy Vidal
Vidal won early this year on Contender Series. However, it was such a sloppy affair that Dana White wasn’t interested in signing him. The short notice nature of the fight earned him a spot on this final card of the season though. Unfortuantely for him, I think he’s run into someone who can wrestle with him and should be able to smack him around with some hooks on the feet.
