MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – August 26

Atlanta Braves vs. Miami Marlins

First Pitch – 6:40 pm EST
loanDepot park – Miami, FL
Broadcast – MLB TV

This game is one we’re targeting on Tuesday – largely because they looked so bad at the plate on Monday. The Braves and the Marlins dueled for nine innings and posted three runs between the two of them. That was against pitching that had not looked great recently. Despite how good he’s been in the past, it was the first time all month that Spencer Strider didn’t allowed five runs or more. The Marlins did it with Edward Cabrera, who had given up 11 runs and 18 hits over his late 9.2 innings pitched.

Now the teams will be more stacked with quality pitching. The Marlins open with Sandy Alcantara, who has allowed just one earned run in each of his last two starts. Those came against the Red Sox and the Cardinals – both teams that are hitting much better than the Braves. Meanwhile, the Braves are throwing Hurston Waldrep, who has been one of the few shinning stars for the squad. In four appearances he is 4-0 with a 0.73 ERA. He has 24 strikeouts in 24.2 innings and last gave up a run on August 9th. He should close this one down for us without issue.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 26: No (-130)

Los Angeles Angels vs. Texas Rangers

First Pitch – 8:05 pm EST
Globe Life Field – Arlington, TX
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Angels get first hacks in this one, and they’ve been pretty bad at the plate lately. Going into Monday’s game (which was still in progress as this was written), they had scored just eight runs over their last four games. That 2.0 runs per game looks pretty bad, especially as Patrick Corbin comes to the bump. While he hasn’t been as good as he was early in the season, he did shut down the Angels recently. They faced off last month and Corbin went 5.0 innings and allowed just two runs on three hits. He faced them earlier in July as well and held them to two runs in that game as well. He seems to have their number, so we’ll count on – at the very least – some early success.

In the bottom of the inning, we have the Rangers, who have not been a beacon of offense either. They rank 23rd in runs per game and 23rd in first inning scoring. They haven’t scored in the first inning in about a week, and Monday was no different. They’ll try to turn that around on Yusei Kikuchi, who has a respectable 3.42 ERA on the year. He’s also coming off a great outing against the Reds. He threw 7.0 innings in that one and only allowed a single run. He also kept guys off the bases with no walks.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 26: No (-120)
