The first reason was experience. The guys noted that Purdue has ten players back, which they called unusual for college hoops. That was enough to sell them on Purdue on the points, even with the game in Las Vegas.
History carried the rest. The guys said Purdue is 5-0 all time against Gonzaga. They also said the two have played three times in the last four years at neutral sites in Portland, Honolulu and Detroit, and that Purdue won outright all three. The read was that Purdue might simply have Gonzaga’s number.
Vegas got its own debate. The talk was that Gonzaga seems to treat Vegas as a home away from home this year, and that the Zags are used to going out there. The guys wondered which team the trip bothers more and never settled it. Along the way the Purdue logo took some friendly fire.
