Colby’s whole argument runs through the Coastal Carolina ground game. By his count Coastal is 80th in the nation in rushing yards, and most of that is the quarterback taking off on called pass plays. He compared it to a new player in Tecmo Bowl running with Randall Cunningham every snap. When he was at the Liberty game, he said, the longest Coastal run was around four yards. They can throw it, but without a run game to respect, he doesn’t think the offense works the way the staff wants it to in year one.
He also read off last week’s numbers against Marshall: Marshall had 505 yards of offense to Coastal’s 300 and still lost. On the App State side, Colby wrote off the loss to ODU as a monsoon game and said he thinks App would win a rematch now. He locked App on his weekday show, called it his favorite play of the week, and flagged it as a contest play here too.
The one concern raised was an ankle injury for the App State quarterback. Colby wasn’t moved by it, because he thinks App is the much better team, though the guys did say to keep an eye on whether he plays. Before any of that, there was a long detour into Coastal’s Back to the ’90s alternate uniforms. Colby called them horrible and then defended them, since a school that knows exactly what it is should lean into the fun.
