Eagles vs Titans Prediction & Picks: NFL Week 2

Thirty-nine is the lowest total on the Week 2 board, and it belongs to this game: the Philadelphia Eagles at the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, September 20 at 1:00 PM ET in Nashville, TN. Philadelphia is giving 7, the Eagles are one of the week’s big public sides at more than 70% of the action, and both hosts laid the points on the NFL Picks Week 2 episode.

Eagles vs Titans Odds

The Eagles are 7-point favorites in Nashville and the total is 39, the shortest number of the 16 games the guys handicapped for Week 2. Philadelphia is also drawing more than 70% of the action, so the market and the public are on the same side here.

Our Picks

Ryan built the pick around Cam Ward. He sees a quarterback regressing rather than making a year-two jump, and he described throws that either skip in five yards short or sail ten yards over the target. The mechanics, in his read, never got cleaned up.

What he wants from the Eagles is restraint. Take the approach the Jets used in week one, lean on the run game, stop exposing an interior offensive line that still has deficiencies, and live with the fact that Tennessee’s defensive interior might be the best thing on that roster. Do that, he said, and he cannot see how Philadelphia fails to win this by margin.

Sean’s read on the Eagles’ sluggish week one was narrower. He did not think it was scheme and he did not think it was execution. He thought Landon Dickerson, the left guard who has been fighting injuries his whole career, simply was not playable, and that defenders were running past him and blowing up plays. Drew Kendall gets the start this week, and Sean expects that alone to matter even at replacement level. He also noted that Philadelphia produced both a 40-plus-yard run and a 40-plus-yard pass in week one while missing that left guard, something only three teams managed.

The fade of Tennessee goes back to the summer, when the guys loved the Titans under 6.5 wins, and Sean still calls their week-one role as a favorite over the Jets ridiculous. By his count the Titans are 9-26 against the spread since their coaching change. The one argument for Tennessee that got real airtime was not a betting argument at all: Ryan admitted an upset here would be funny, said he was not sure whether his handicapping brain or his comedic brain was winning, and laid the seven anyway.
