Week 2’s Sunday Night Football window belongs to Kansas City, and the guys are backing the team flying in. Ryan opened this one as a rerun. Denver’s failure on Monday night was that it would not pound the rock against Spags’ defense, and Indianapolis is walking in to try exactly that. Both hosts like Jonathan Taylor’s spot, and Ryan expects the Colts to test that Kansas City front harder than the Broncos bothered to.
Sean is not buying the reaction to the Chiefs’ opener. He called them sloppy and unfocused, said Mahomes did not complete a pass more than 10 air yards, and kept coming back to Kenneth Walker running through them. Mahomes also tested the knee in that game and now turns around on a short week. Sean added that a second straight home game to open a season has statistically been a trouble spot rather than the gift it looks like.
Mostly, though, the argument was about the price. Ryan wanted to know why this isn’t 3.5 or 4. Sean’s answer: the public falls in love with Kansas City after a big prime time win, another prime time game is exactly when they pile in, so the number has to sit at 6.5 to get anyone onto Indianapolis. Sean stacked Andy Reid at 9-17 against the spread in week two over a 26-year sample on top of it, and Ryan noted the Chiefs are 1-8 in their last nine games as a favorite of between 3.5 points and a touchdown. None of that makes Indianapolis good, and neither host pretended otherwise. Sean pointed out the Colts haven’t won a game in 311 days and their owner has been leaning on the GM and the head coach, and Ryan flagged Houston sitting on deck. The pick is the number, not the team.
