Ryan started on the Dallas defense and never really left it. He said he intends to play props in every game where the Cowboys are the ones on defense, and his read on their linebacker play was blunt: they did not look ready against the Giants. He pointed to New York converting 9 of 11 third downs in that game, and to the Giants getting the ball twice in the second half and scoring both times. Sean saw it from a different seat, watching on TV instead of on tape, and came to the same place. Dallas defenders were in the wrong positions and receivers were running open, which he called getting schematically worked, and he does not think that is something a team fixes in one week.
From there it turned into a Jayden Daniels conversation. Sean’s favorite angle was Jackson Dart running 11 times for 54 yards against this defense, because Daniels is a bigger version of that same problem. In Sean’s telling, Daniels’ legs were the only reason Washington was in the Eagles game at all, and the Eagles were getting pressure while their back end cleaned up behind it. Ryan pushed on it a little, noting that almost none of Dart’s runs were improvised and most of it was scripted, which reads more as a reason for Washington to call designed runs than a reason to back off.
Ryan’s caution for the other side was that Dak has lit up Dan Quinn defenses before, so nobody was calling this a free square. He did like what the Giants got when they put their pass-rush package out there, because Dak rarely gets flustered and there were plays where he was clearly off his mark, and he thought George Pickens had chances to make plays and did not make them. Sean’s closing note was that he has not seen anyone lock down Terry McLaurin, who should be eager to get at this defense, and the fade of the Cowboys linebackers ran through nearly every angle the two of them liked.
