New Orleans Saints Preview
32 NFL previews here at SGPN hit our 10th team preview, and already our third one from the NFC South. Hot on the heels of the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers, it’s time to dive into the New Orleans Saints. New Orleans is one of the most interesting teams in 2026. A lot of questions still abound around the team. Have they found their franchise quarterback? Is Kellen Moore cut out to be a head coach? That’s just the start! Let’s dive in and look at this 2026 New Orleans Saints preview.
New Orleans Saints 2025 Recap
The season started off slow, going just 2-10 in their first 12 games. Then, something clicked over their last five games. That something was Tyler Shough. The rookie out of Louisville started the last 10 games for the Saints. He totaled 2,384 yards through the air, tossing 10 touchdowns along the way. He also rushed for almost 200 yards and three more touchdowns. Chris Olave once again proved he is a true #1 dominant receiver. He racked up 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns despite the team being the 28th-worst team in the league in scoring.
Overall, while the record was a disappointment, the season wasn’t. Kellen Moore proved he has the chops to cut it as a head coach; his offense got better as the season went on; he developed the rookie quarterback, and winning four of the last five games was a huge boost for the team heading into the off-season.
New Orleans Saints 2026 Preview
Kellen Moore saw the impact Saquon Barkley had joining the Philadelphia Eagles when he was the offensive coordinator. He wanted to make a similar splash on his new team. So the Saints went out and got the biggest free agent running back on the market. The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Travis Etienne. Etienne signed a 4 year 52 million contract and immediately upgraded the Saints’ offensive weapons. They also re-signed their veteran star Alvin Kamara, who can still be a weapon without having to be the bellcow back.
The team signed former first-round NFL pick tight end Noah Fant. Then beefed up their offensive line by adding veteran guard David Edwards on a 4-year 61 million deal. That’ll be huge for the protection of Tyler Shough, as well as opening up lanes up the middle for Travis Ettiene. They shored up the defense with linebacker Kaden Ellis, a well-known player to the Saints having played in their division with the Atlanta Falcons.
In the NFL Draft, the team immediately continued to bolster their offense to build around Tyler Shough. In the first round, they grabbed Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson with the No. 8 overall selection. The 6’2” Tyson has already been impressing in training camp, and could immediately become the #2 option at wide receiver behind Chris Olave. – Cody Zeeb (@Husker_Zeeb)
Cody’s New Orleans Saints Best Bet
Over 7.5 Wins (-125)
I’m a huge fan of Kellen Moore and what he’s building in New Orleans. This bet relies heavily on how well Tyler Shough does in year two. The way he ended year one, it looks promising. This offense is loaded, and the defensive unit is solid. If they can take what they had in the last five games and implement it over the first 12 games in 2026, they’ll have no problem adding just two more wins to their resume. Don’t forget, this team, as bad as they were last year, still won six games.
