UFC Mexico: Moreno vs Erceg – Predictions & Best Bets

Brandon Moreno – Wins via Decision (+120)

While I really like Steven Erceg, it’s becoming clear that he’s not quite ready for this top tier of fighter. He catapaulted himself into a title shot after just three fights in the UFC. The best of those wins was a KO over Matt Schnell. While that isn’t nothing, his fights with Alexandre Pantoja and Kai-Kara France have shown there are levels to this. I think Moreno is part of that upper level and should be able to outwork him for 25 minutes here.

Manuel Torres ML (+100) vs. Drew Dober

Drew Dober got his hype behind his ability to take a punch. However, it seems to have caught up to him at this point. He’s been TKO’d in two of his last four fights. In addition, I think people are sleeping on just how good Torres can be on the mat. He submitted Chris Duncan in the first round not too long ago, which is a win that is aging better and better each day.

MarQuel Mediros ML (-175) vs Austin Hubbard

Austin Hubbard is as tough as they come. He can take a shot with the best of them, which has always been one of his best traits. Unfortunately, he’s fighting a fighter in Mediros, who is extremely hard to corner. Mediros is elusive and has some really nice leg kicks to go with a sharp arsenal overall. I expect him to be able to frustrate Hubbard here and either clip him or make this a one-sided affair on the cards.

Edgar Chairez – Wins Inside the Distance (+140)

Edgar Chairez really impressed me when he stepped in with Joshua Van and held his own while trading hands. He’s known as a submission specialist, but showed he really knows how to throw down as well. Now he’ll get a matchup with a fellow flyweight who has had issues with taking and shot and with fighters who have length. That’s a perfect spot for Chairez to show off what he does on the feet and maybe get a KO. However, we want to be weary of the tag and bag situation, so we’ll play the inside the distance line.

Kevin Borjas ML (+120) vs Ronaldo Rodriguez

Borjas may be without a win in his first two UFC fights, but Rodriguez showed some signs of weakness. In Rodriguez’s fight with Ode Osbourne, he had a bit of trouble with the veteran’s striking and was caught in a submission early. I think he’ll find himself against an even better striker in this one, which doesn’t bode well for him. Additionally, I think Rodriguez will have a tough time keeping Borjas down for extended periods of time.

Joe Pyfer – Wins via Submission (+400)

Pyfer squares off with Kelvin Gastelum on Saturday. The former TUF winner, Gastelum, has lost half of his last six losses by submission, and by all different kinds of submissions. One of those was a kimura loss to Sean Brady, who just so happens to be Joe Pyfer’s best training partner. With the high elevation of this event, I expect Pyfer to go in with a conservative approach and look for that finish on the mat in this one.
