MMA Regional Pick of the Week: Tuff-N-Uff 141
Tuff-N-Uff Welterweight Fight: Aireon Tavarres vs Leon Shahbazyan
Card Start Time: Friday (2/14), 9:00pm EST (UFC Fight Pass)
This fight got flexed into the main event of Friday night’s card thanks to the original headliner, Eric McConico, signing with the UFC for a bout next week. However, this one has all the prestige needed to cover the top of a regional card.
Tavarres is a tough customer who has fought some really credible names. He’s had a bit of a rough go of it lately, but the mixture of his speed and submission skills make him dangerous in pretty much every fight. Less than a year ago he finished a fight with a rare gogoplata.
He’ll fight Contender Series veteran and older brother of Edmen, Leon Shahbazyan. After getting beat up on Contender Series by Phil Rowe, the elder Shahbazyan took two years off. Since returning, he’s gone 1-2 with the only win being flagged by Tapology for legitimacy issues. If you watch any of the fights, he looks somewhat scared in there lately. That’s not a good sign against an opponent who is a threat to finish the fight at all times.
