New York Jets at Jacksonville Jaguars Preview and Predictions

Aaron Rodgers and his New York Jets head back to Florida for the second week in a row. After visiting Miami last week, they’ll head to Jacksonville for Week 15. There they’ll face Mac Jones and his Jacksville Jaguars in a battle of three-win teams. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. ET on FOX. The weather forecast is calling for 73 degrees and light rain at kickoff. Let’s take a look at this Jets-Jaguars preview and predictions.

If you want to know the state of the New York Jets franchise, their Ayahuasca-using quarterback summed it up in some comments on the Jets culture this week. “It might be some sort of curse we have to break,” said Aaron Rodgers. That was on the heels of their fourth loss in a row and ninth loss in their last 10 games. Their star running back, Breece Hall was “seen walking onto the practice field with helmet in hand” on Thursday, an indication he may have some chance at playing Sunday.

Things haven’t been much better down in Jacksonville for the Jaguars. Starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence sits on IR awaiting an exit from concussion protocol so he can have surgery done on his sprained AC Joint. Mac Jones, the former Patriots signal caller will finish out the season leading the Jaguars. He led the team to their first win in six games last week in an ugly 10-6 game against the Tennessee Titans on the road.

Brian Thomas Jr Over 63.5 Receiving Yards (-125)

Brain Thomas Jr has been one of the few bright spots for the Jaguars in 2024. The 23rd overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft out of LSU has 54 catches for 851 yards and six touchdowns in his first 13 games in Jacksonville. He’s crossed the 64-yard mark in seven of those games, including the last three in a row. Even last week with Mac Jones starting at quarterback, and the week before when Lawrence was hurt and Jones was thrust in at quarterback early in the game, Thomas still got it done.

Now you face a Jets team that gave it all they had last week and still couldn’t find a way to win. They’ve been hemorrhaging yards against wide receivers over the past few weeks. They’ll get Sauce Gardner back this week, which is a major boost. But I don’t think it’ll be enough to slow down the Thomas train.

Jacksonville Jaguars +3.5 (-115)

The New York Jets with a record of 3-10 overall and 4-9 against the spread are over a field goal favorites on the road? And somehow they are also getting 82% of the bets so far on a Thursday afternoon. There must be too many people watching Rodgers’ TV appearances and doing Ayahuasca. They’ve covered twice in the last 19 games, in both cases as underdogs and 0-6 ATS the last six times they’ve been favored.

Yes, the Jacksonville Jaguars aren’t a team that instills a lot of confidence in anyone, I get that. But they’ve been a decent team lately especially ATS where they are 5-1-1 over their last seven games. It won’t be pretty but Mac Jones is competent enough to keep them in the game, and you just can’t trust the Jets as favorites, especially over a field goal favorite. Give me the Mac-sonville Jaguars (thanks Sean Green) to cover this one.
