This is a strong contender for game of the week in Week 9. The NFC North battle at historic Lambeau Field features two teams vying for the NFC North title, with playoff and Super Bowl aspirations. The teams will square off at 4:25 p.m. ET on FOX. Let’s take a look at this Lions-Packers preview and predictions.
The Detroit Lions come into this Week 9 matchup with a record of 6-1. They’ve won five in a row, including two wins by 38 points or more. The Lions injury report is pretty light this week with the key players like Jared Goff and most of his offensive line expected to play. Jameson Williams will miss this game as part of his two game suspension.
The Green Bay Packers are sitting at 6-2 as they head into this matchup. They’ve won four games in a row, and their two losses were close games against rough NFC opponents. The biggest question for the Packers this week is their quarterback Jordan Love. Love is officially listed as questionable, and Matt LaFleur isn’t one to give big hits on a lean either way. My best guess is we see Love play but only time will tell. If Love is out, Malik Willis will get the start again, he’s 2-0 in his two fill-in starts this season.

David Montgomery Over 55.5 Rushing Yards (-115)
David Montgomery started his career with the Chicago Bears in the NFC North before moving over to the Detroit Lions. Whichever team he’s been on, he loves playing against the Green Bay Packers. In six of his seven career games against them, Montgomery has blown past this number, including in the last four games in a row. Last season in their first matchup he rushed for 121 yards, and in 2022 he rushed for 122 yards against them.

Detroit Lions -2 (-120)
The Lions have won four of their last five matchups over the Green Bay Packers, including the last three times the teams met at Lambeau Field. In all four of those wins the Lions have won by more than two points, and they’ve covered the spread in all four as well. The Lions are the second-best team in the league in 2024 against the spread at 6-1, while the Packers are just 4-4. This should be a good game and tough matchup, but the Lions appear to be a next-level team, and both recent history and ATS records say to ride the Lions in Week 9.
