MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – World Series Game 5 – October 30

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Yankees

First Pitch – 8:08 pm EST
Yankee Stadium – Bronx, New York
Broadcast – FOX

The pitching matchup for game five repeats exactly what we saw in game one. This time Gerrit Cole will be the first to the bump, and he looked solid against the Dodgers last time out. He finished with six innings of one-run ball and only allowed four hits the entire game. Early he looked even more dominant. The Dodgers did not score that lone run until the fifth inning. His first came almost unscathed with the exception of a Freddie Freeman triple, which was also a bit of a misnomer. He barely squeezed it inside the line the opposite way and then saw Alex Verdugo badly misplay it. If that’s the extent of what they could do early in that game, I like Cole’s chances to keep them quiet through one.

Bottom of the First

Jack Flaherty was arguably better than Cole early on. He wound up going just 5.1 innings and allowed two runs, but those runs didn’t come until the sixth inning – which he couldn’t finish. In fact, the Yankees weren’t hitting the ball much at all early. He gave up just one hit over the first two innings and it was an infield single hit to the side of him. The ball actually didn’t leave the infield until Giancarlo Stanton flew out to start the fourth inning. Keeping the Yankees on the ground is vital to keeping runs off the board, and it seems like Flaherty has the recipe.
