Houston Texans at Green Bay Packers Preview and Predictions

CJ Stroud vs Jordan Love. It’s a battle of young gunslingers this weekend at historic Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The young star quarterbacks will face off in this matchup slated for 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS. Both teams with a chance to prove they are true contenders this season. Here’s my Texans-Packers preview and prediction.

The visiting Houston Texans come into this game with a record of 5-1 as three-point road underdogs. They scored an impressive AFC win over the Buffalo Bills two weeks ago before a beatdown on the Patriots in Week 6. Nico Collins remains on injured reserve with a host of other Texans questionable for the game including offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, defensive back Kamari Lassiter, and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair.

The home team Green Bay Packers sport a record of 4-2 coming into this one. Both losses were close games against tough NFC opponents losing by just five points to the Philadelphia Eagles, and just two points to the undefeated Minnesota Vikings. They have their own wide receiver troubles with Jayden Reed still limited in practice along with Dontayvion Wicks. Reed is expected to play, while Wicks status is still very much up in the air early in the week.

Josh Jacobs Over 60.5 Rushing Yards (-115)

The Packers’ new running back has had no problem shouldering the workhorse load in 2024. He’s averaging 77.3 yards per game on the ground and has surpassed this rushing total in four of the Packers’ six games. The Texans’ defense has let up some big rushing games to running backs this season. Former Packer Aaron Jones torched them for 102 yards on the ground in Week 2. Tank Bigsby grabbed 90 on the ground while Travis Etienne added 50 of his own. Buffalo’s James Cook most recently ran for 82 yards against them.

Game Total Over 47-Points (-115)

Last week we got the Washington Commanders and Baltimore Ravens duking it out with Jayden Daniels and Lamar Jackson going back and forth. This week, we get CJ Stroud and Jordan Love who are going to make this a battle. The over in this game is one of my favorite bets on the weekend. The Packers are averaging 27.0 points per game through six weeks. While the Texans are averaging 23.8 points per game of their own.

When you get a game of this magnitude with two of the youngest, but most dangerous teams with points to prove. These quarterbacks are going to give it that extra 110% you want when you are on the over. As one of the closer points spreads of the weekend, hopefully, it’ll turn into a back-and-forth of points all day.
