MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 29

San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

First Pitch – 3:10 pm EST
Chase Field – Phoenix, Arizona
Broadcast – MLB TV

There aren’t a lot of teams out there still playing for something at this stage in the season, but the Diamondbacks are one of them. They’ll send out Brandon Pfaadt with hopes of possibily saving their season. He’s been up and down over the last couple starts, but even in the bad ones, it seems like the trouble comes later in the game. He allowed five runs in under three innings last time out, but still managed a NRFI in there for us. With the playoffs on the line for his squad, I like him to start sharp again here.

While the Padres know their playoff fate going into the last game, the Diamondbacks don’t seem to be hitting anyone they throw. They’ve managed just three runs in the first two games of this series, and that’s been knowing they need to keep chase on the Braves and Mets. On Saturday, they were no-hit through the first five innings by Randy Vasquez. Martin Perez gets the honors on Sunday, and he’s actually been sensational this month. He’s held a 1.08 ERA through the month of September in thee starts.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 29: No (-115)

New York Mets vs. Milwaukee Brewers

First Pitch – 3:10 pm EST
American Family Field – Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Mets, similarly to the Diamondbacks, are another team that is playing for something at this stage of the season. Also similarly, they haven’t been hitting as of late. With the season on the line, the Mets have just seven runs in their last four games (1.75 runs per game). Colin Rea will look to keep that streak going. While he has only been getting spot starts and extended relief appearances, he’s look good his last few times out. He’s allowed just three runs in his last three appearances and I like his chances to keep the Mets misery high.

The Mets will call upon the services of David Peterson. He’s been sharp since the calendar turned to August. In the ten starts he’s made since then, only twice has he allowed more than two runs. He’s posted a 2.69 ERA since that part of the season, which has brough his season-long ERA down to 3.08. Even though the Brewers have been hitting well lately, they do still rank just in the middle of the pack when it comes to scoring in the first inning.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 29: No (-130)
