New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons Preview and Predictions

It’s a battle of NFC South rivals at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta this weekend. The 2-1 New Orleans Saints will take on the 1-2 Atlanta Falcons. Over the last 10 seasons, the Saints hold the edge with a 12-7 record over the Saints in that span. This game will occur on Sunday, September 29th at 1:00 p.m. ET on Fox. let’s dive into this Saint Falcons preview.

The Saints opened the season with two blowout wins and an impressive display of offense. Week 1 they took down the Carolina Panthers 47-10. In Week 2 they followed it up with an even more impressive drubbing of the Dallas Cowboys 44-19. Week 3 was an offensive reality check as they took the Eagles to the wire, losing a close one 15-12.

The Falcons’ tenure with Kirk Cousins started off a little rough as Justin Fields and the Pittsburgh Steelers came into Mercedes-Benz Stadium and took home the upset win. In Week 2 they fought back against the Philadelphia Eagles with Kirk Cousins leading the game-winning drive with less than 2:00 left on the clock. In Week 3 they put up a valiant effort, falling just short of beating the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Alvin Kamara Over 70 Rushing Yards (+105)

The Falcons’ defense has not been good against the run the first three weeks of the season. In Week 1 Najee Harris ran for 70 yards and Justin Fields tacked on another 57 from the quarterback position. In Week 2 Saquon Barkley ran for 95 yards against the Falcons, and Jalen Hurts added an additional 85 yards on the ground. It was more of the same in Week 3. Undrafted free agent running back Carson Steele making his first career start in just his fourth game, ran for 72 yards against the Falcons. Samaje Perine, Patrick Mahomes, and Xavier Worthy added another 55 yards on the ground.

Kamra was limited in practice Thursday, but that was likely just maintenance after 29 touches in Week 3. Kamara has cruised past this number in each of the three weeks of the NFL season with 83 yards in Week 1 against Carolina. 115 yards in Week 2 against the Cowboys and 87 yards on the ground in Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kyle Pitts Over 40 Receiving Yards (+110)

One of the New Orleans Saints’ bigger weaknesses has been defending the tight end. We’re going to look past the Week 1 Carolina Panthers, as they didn’t do much of anything the first two weeks of the season. In Week 2 the Cowboys starting tight end Jake Ferguson was out, but their backup tight end Luke Schoonmaker stepped up catching all six targets for 43 yards. Last week, Dallas Goedert was a fantasy darling for anyone who played him. Goedert caught 10 of his 11 targets for an incredible 170 yards.

For Kyle Pitts the first two weeks of the season, he didn’t reach the 40-yard mark. However, his targets have increased every week as Kirk Cousins gets more comfortable with him. Last week it was just two catches, but Pitts went for 59 total yards. Look for the Falcons to exploit that Saints weakness on Sunday.
