MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 15
Cincinnati Reds vs. Minnesota Twins
First Pitch – 1:05 pm EST
Target Field – Minneapolis, Minnesota
Broadcast – Roku
We whiffed on this one cashing on Saturday, but we’re back at in Sunday for a lot of the same reasons. To add to it, I actually like this pitching matchup better.
To start the NRFI, we have the Reds, were cold coming into this series and have now heated up in a big way. Still, they’re just a middle of the pack team when it comes to run scoring. They also haven’t scored in either of the first innings of this series despite putting up 19 runs overall. Now they’ll face David Festa, who doesn’t have the best surface stats. However, he had a 3.13 ERA last month and has only allowed more than three runs one time since the Fourth of July.
On the other side, we have almost the opposite. The Twins have been a solid hitting team all year, but have been cold in this series. They’ve managed just five runs in the two games so far. Now they’ll get Rhett Lowder, who has been sensational in his short stint in the majors. He’s allowed just one run in 15.1 innings and I don’t expect the next to be in the first inning of this game.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 15: No (-115)
Oakland Athletics vs. Chicago White Sox
First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
Guaranteed Rate Field – Chicago, Illinois
Broadcast – MLB TV
These are two teams that you have to love on just about any NRFI. They rank near or at the bottom of the league in all the important indicators here. In first inning runs, the Atheltics are 24th and the White Sox are dead last. In run scoring, they are even worse with the Athletics at 26th and the White Sox still in dead last. There’s no reason to trust either offense.
On the defensive side they both have pitchers who you might be able to find a shred of confidence for. The White Sox will use newcomer Sean Burke. In his debut he threw 3.0 innings and didn’t allow a run on three hits. The Athletics will use someone with a little more experience – JP Sears. He’s kept three of his last five opponents to one run or less. With their recent success it should not be hard to see these bats going silent.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 15: No (-120)
