MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – September 13

Miami Marlins vs. Washington Nationals

First Pitch – 6:45 pm EST
Nationals Park – Washington, DC
Broadcast – MLB TV

I’m certainly not worried about the bats of the Marlins entering Friday. They currently rank 29th in the majors with just 3.82 runs per game. Not only that, but they’ve been worse as of late. They’ve scored just 13 runs in their last four games and have struggled mightily on the road. Things don’t get easier with DJ Herz on the hill. He’s shutout two of his last three opponents and has only allowed more than two runs once since July 7th. I expect him to breeze through the first three outs here and get our NRFI started right.

The Nationals are another team that I don’t really worry about their hitting. They rank 29th in first inning runs, which ranks just ahead of the abysmal White Sox. They also have to try to score on an underrated starter. Edward Cabrera is on a roll lately – allowing just one earned run in his last two starts (12.1 innings). That includes 7.0 scoreless against the Phillies last time out, who are by far a better hitting team than the Nationals.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 13: No (-120)

Oakland Athletics vs. Chicago White Sox

First Pitch – 7:40 pm EST
Guaranteed Rate Field – Chicago, Illinois
Broadcast – MLB TV

Speaking of bad hitting teams, we have another pair in this game. The Athletics are the more feared in terms of their offensive potency and they rank 26th in MLB in runs scored. Standing across from them will be All-Star Garrett Crochet, who the White Sox have been limiting in his most recent outings. While that might be a concern for fantasy owners, it doesn’t bother us. He’s held his opponents scoreless in the first in three of his last four outings – excluding a weird injury shortened outing – and that’s really all we care about.

In the bottom of the first, we get the worst hitting team in the majors. I might be in on an NRFI for the White Sox if they were facing a pitching machine at this stage in the year. However, they won’t get that, they’ll get lefty, rookie Brady Basso. He got his first start last week and went six scoreless against Detroit. He struck out six in that outing and only allowed three hits. This should be an even easier outing and should let us cash that NRFI.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for September 13: No (-120)
