Los Angeles Rams at Detroit Lions Predictions and Preview

After Thursday Night Football, Friday Night Football, and a full slate of Sunday games, we get to enjoy what should be a thriller in Detroit. These two teams met up in January in the NFC Wild Card round of the playoffs, and fireworks ensued. The Lions beat the Rams by just a single point in Matthew Stafford’s return to the place he started at quarterback for the first 12 seasons of his career. Let’s dive in and take a look at our Los Angeles Rams at Detroit Lions predictions and preview.

Rams (+3.5) at Lions (-3.5) Game Preview

The NFL hit a home run with this game being featured as the Sunday night game. In 2021 these teams were in very opposite places and made a huge trade that would change the fate of both franchises in what is arguably the most fair trade in league history. Matthew Stafford was sent off to Los Angeles with the sole goal of leading the team to Super Bowl victory. He did just that in his first season with the franchise.

The Lions received Jared Goff the game manager that couldn’t get over the hump. He’s now arguably one of the best quarterbacks in the game. They also received a slew of picks which turned into Ifeatu Melifonwu, Jameson Williams, Josh Paschal, Jahmyr Gibbs, Sam LaPorta, and Brodric Martin. Now the Lions are one of the best teams in the league and have Super Bowl aspirations of their own. These two explosive offenses have the highest game total (52) of the week and the NFL, along with all of us, will be expecting a back-and-forth shootout of a game.

Detroit Lions -3.5 (-108)

These two teams dueled to a close finish back in January when they matched up in that Wild Card game. The Lions would go on to make the NFC Championship Game where they lost to the 49ers by just three points. They bring all their key pieces back and are one of the favorites to win it all in 2024. Their offense fueled by the likes of Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Sam LaPorta should be an almost unstoppable force.

The Rams return a lot of their key pieces with one huge hole. Defensive tackle Aaron Donald hung up the cleats after the 2023 season and called it a career. Los Angeles brought in some pieces, but it won’t be an easy void to fill. Like Thursday night’s game, this one should be close, it just feels like the Lions are clearly the better team and we shouldn’t be fooled by a hook at 3.5.

Amon-Ra St. Brown 100+ Receiving Yards (+150)

Amon-Ra St. Brown is set to have a huge season for the Detroit Lions. He ended 2023 with 119 catches for 1,515 and 10 touchdowns. The Lions play 14 of their 17 games this year in domes and that starts this weekend at home.

In the Wild Card win against the Rams St. Brown had nine targets. He caught seven passes for 110 yards with an average of 15.7 yards per catch. His longest gain was 30 yards. St. Brown has the speed and ability with the ball that should get him worked in early and often. If this turns into a shootout game look for Amon-Ra to fly past 100 yards receiving.
