Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – August 1

Seth Lugo – Higher than 0.5 1st Inning Strikeouts

In 22 starts this year, Lugo has 17 strikeouts in the first inning. That comes out to 0.77 strikeouts per first inning for him. That’s already comfortably over the projection here, but there’s more reason to like this spot. The Tigers rank 19th in the league in striking out at 8.66 times per game. They struck out 10 times on Wednesday, which included two in the first inning. Lugo should nab at least one of them.

Matt Olson – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

Olson and the rest of the Braves have had a disappointing year at the plate, but he busted out of a slump on Wednesday. He went deep twice in the game and hit the ball hard another time. Now he’ll get a right-handed, rookie pitcher. While Max Meyer has some solid numbers and a bright future, he’s also been on the shelf a bit while the Marlins try to limit his innings. I like Olson’s chances to keep things going against him.

Ryan Feltner – Lower than 5.5 Hits Allowed

Feltner may have a near 5.00 ERA, but he’s been good as of late. In his last five starts, he’s held each of his opponents under three earned runs in every one of them. He also has stayed below this projection in three of his last four games. Those games were against offenses much more potent than the Angels. As a result, I like his chances to limit their offense here.
