MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – July 14

Miami Marlins vs. Cincinnati Reds

First Pitch – 1:40 pm EST
Great American Ballpark – Cincinnati, Ohio
Broadcast – MLB TV

In the top half of the inning, Nick Lodolo hits the bump to get our NRFI started right. He’s been hit around a little bit in his last couple of starts, but even in those starts he was good early. In both the Rockies and Red Sox starts, he made it through the third inning before running into any trouble. If we go back before those starts, he had five straight games of two or less earned runs.

He’ll face a Miami team that has not been particularly potent on offense. They have scored just 17 runs in their last five games (3.4 runs per game) and that’s even a step down from their season average. They rank 29th in the league in runs scored at just 3.51 per game. Lodolo shouild have no problem limiting them.

On the other side, Trevor Rogers has been overlooked lately, and maybe for good reason. It isn’t often that I’m digging a 1-9 record on a NRFI. However, he’s allowed two or less runs in five of his last six outings. He has also done much better at limting the long ball. He has allowed just one homer in his last four starts, which includes games with the Red Sox, the Phillies, and the Astros. With Cincinnati being a middle of the pack offense, I think Rogers gets us through at least three outs.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 14: No (-115)

Atlanta Braves vs. San Diego Padres

First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
Petco Park – San Diego, California
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Braves offense has hit a bit of a snag in the last few games. They have been shut out in two of their last three games and are averaging under three runs per game in the last four. They’ll get a bit of a reprieve from the big arms that they’ve seen lately in Randy Vasquez. However, he has been fantastic as of late. In his last three starts (15.1 innings), he’s allowed just three earned runs. With the trajectory of both sides in our favor, I’ll say he can get through the first here.

The other side should not be much of a sweat at all. The Padres offense has also been slow lately. They have just nine runs in their last five games – which comes out to 1.8 runs per game. Now, they’ll face the National League Cy Young favorite at the break, Chris Sale. He’s leading the majors in wins and has a 2.73 ERA going into Sunday.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 14: No (-140)
