MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – July 8

Colorado Rockies vs. Cincinnati Reds

First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Great American Ball Park – Cincinnati, Ohio
Broadcast – MLB TV

The top of the first should be a breeze here as Andrew Abbott takes the bump against the Rockies. Abbott has been lights out as of late for the Reds. He’s allowed two or fewer runs in each of his last three games. If you want to open that criteria up a bit, he’s thrown six striaght allowing three or less runs. It’s been since May that he’s been smacked around at all.

This Rockies team doesn’t seem to be the ones to change that trend. Despite playing half of their games at elevation, they’re ranked 19th in the league in run scoring. They’re obviously a much worse team on the road, which is where their runs per game drops to 27th in the league.

The bottom half of the inning is a little hairier for the NRFI. Ryan Feltner doesn’t nearly have the surface stats that Abbott does, but he has looked really good in his last two starts. Last time out he held the hot hitting Brewers team to just one run over five innings. The start prior he had allowed just two earned against Houston. This Reds team ranks 24th in runs per game at home – that should be a meaningful step down in competition for Feltner.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 8: No (+105)

Texas Rangers vs. Los Angeles Angels

First Pitch – 9:38 pm EST
Angel Stadium – Los Angeles, California
Broadcast – ESPN+

Kicking off this NRFI, we’ll get our third look at David Daniel. He first caught our eye when he made his first major league start of this season and went eight scoreless innings against the Tigers. The numbers on his second start don’t look great, but that’s only because he got hit a bit when they left him in for a bit too long. He threw a scoreless first in that second appearance and had only allowed two runs through four innings. Texas has been a middle of the pack offense this year and I think Davis should be able to find his form early, even if he can’t sustain that work.

Jon Gray tries to bring the NRFI home for us, but this is far more of a fade on the Angels than it is a tail on Gray. The Angels offense has been stagnant. They got shut out again on Sunday against the Cubs. That’s the third time they’ve been shut out in their last five games. They’re scoring just 1.6 runs per game in that span. They can’t seem to get anything going offensively lately and have lost six of their last seven as a result. Gray may not be pitching in top form, but should be plenty good to get us three outs.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 8: No (-110)
