Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – June 30
Ryan Mountcastle – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
On Sunday Night Baseball, I like Ryan Mountcastle’s projection. While he’s not had particularly good results as of late, that’s not because he’s not hitting the ball hard. In fact, he’s only struck out once in his last five games. He’s also only walked once in that span – so he’s making tons of contact. Now he’ll get to face Andrew Heaney, who he’s had success against. In nine career plate appearances, he’s 4-for-8 with a walk. All four of those hits have been for extra bases – two doubles and two homers.
Steven Kwan – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Kwan has been over this projection in two of the three games in this series already. While he’s traditionally not been much of a power hitter, his numbers have seen an uptick this year. He has seven home runs this year, which is a career high for him. He’s currently slugging .540 and has added all this power without sacrificing any of his contact. He’s hitting .371 on the year. Between that batting average and what we’ve seen for power numbers, that’s enough for me to like this projection for Sunday.
Jarred Kelenic – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
The Braves owe most of their recent offensive success to what Kelenic is doing in the leadoff spot. The Braves centerfielder turned around the third pitch he saw from Paul Skenes and deposited it into the right field bleachers. That’s just a taste of the run he’s been on. He has 15 total bases in his last five games (or 3.0 per game). In three career appearances against Bailey Falter, Sunday’s starter, he has two extra base hits (a double and a homer).
