Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – June 22

Juan Soto – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

The Yankees offense went ice cold Friday against Chris Sale, and that wasn’t necessarily new for Soto. He’s gone five games now without reaching this projection. However, I like this as a buy-low slot for him for two reasons. Firstly, he’s still hitting .304 on the year. I don’t imagine that this kind of slump will continue all that long. Secondly, he feasts off of Saturday’s starter Charlie Morton. In 16 head-to-head matchups, he’s 7-for-11 (.636) with five walks. Three of those hits were home runs, and that gives me all the faith I need to see Soto break out here.

Christian Walker – Higher than 0.5 Total Bases

Walker has been the opposite of Soto going into Saturday’s action. He couldn’t be hotter than he is right now, and the projections just haven’t caught up. In his last five games, he’s combined for 16 total bases (or 3.2 per game). He also hasn’t walked once in that span, which means he’s eager to swing the bat. That might not be so good for his squad but it is helpful for this projection.

Another helpful thing for this projection is the head-to-head matchup. Zack Wheeler might be feared by a lot of the league, but not Walker. He’s a career 10-for-22 (.455) against Wheeler with half of those hits going for extra-bases.

Shohei Ohtani – Higher than 2.5 Total Bases

To be honest, I like the projection of 0.5 home runs to go higher than that, but the scorcher is only paying 1.1x. As a result, I think we’ll play it safe with the total bases.

The reason I like Shohei here is two-fold. Firstly, he has a home run in three of his last four games. He seems like he’s seeing the ball exceptionally well right now and hitting monstrous home runs. Secondly, this is his first trip to play in his old stomping grounds, which produced a homer and five total bases on Friday. Let’s ride that hot hand here.
