1 PM CT +114 NC State vs Kentucky -145
PROBABLE PITCHERS
NC State: Trey Pooser Grad RHP 7-1, 3.46 ERA, 79 K, 33 BB, 83.1 IP, 3.78 SIERA
Kentucky: Sam Highfill Grad RHP: 7-2, 5.02 ERA, 75 K, 41 BB, 80 IP, 4.50 SIERA
Kentucky, co-champions of the SEC Regular Season, fits Charles Schwab Field tremendously. The Wildcats can hit the long ball, but they don’t rely on it like many teams in this year’s field. Instead, they have a knack for getting on base, and the manufacturing runs with near-perfect baserunning. UK is 19th in steals per game and T-38th in wRC+ with a 117.
How can I not bring up the 2021 Revenge Tour storyline for NC State? The Wolf Pack finished the season on a 16-5 run in their last 21 games to get back to the scene of the crime. A gigantic reason for that has been their young trio of relief arms: Jacob Dudan, Derrick Smith, and Cooper Consiglio. They have a combined 2.36 ERA in those 21 games (53.1 IP).
However, I’m not sure NC State will be able to have the lead when they turn to their rolling pen. NCSU’s starting pitcher, Sam Highfill, hasn’t been great lately. He has a 5.69 ERA over his last six starts. Pit that up against UK’s starting pitcher Trey Pooser, who has a 0.47 ERA in this year’s postseason. Look for the Cats to grab an early lead and keep it. Maybe grab the First 5 Innings ML when it opens.
The Bet: -145 Kentucky ML
6 PM CT +124 Florida vs Texas A&M -160
PROBABLE PITCHERS
Florida: Liam Peterson FR RHP: 3-4, 5.97 ERA, 72 K, 36 BB, 60.1 IP, 3.77 SIERA, 6.21 ERA L3 ST
Texas A&M: Justin Lamkin SO LHP: 2-2, 5.73 ERA, 71 K, 19 BB, 55 IP, 2.74 SIERA
Texas A&M’s moneyline in this matchup has plummeted since opening. There are two main reasons for that: Braden Montgomery’s broken ankle and the fact that Ryan Prager, A&M’s Ace, isn’t starting this game.
Even without BMont, Texas A&M possesses one of the best top-to-bottom scoring offenses with great defense. Kaedon Kent, Montgomery’s substitute, just happens to be the son of former MLB MVP Jeff Kent. During Saturday’s Super Regional game, Kent blasted a Grand Slam.
That said, Ryan Prager’s absence has a huge impact. Justin Lamkin will get the ball first, and he has a 12.56 ERA in his last four appearances. Florida’s starting pitcher, true freshman Liam Peterson, has also been in rough shape during the postseason. Peterson has a 6.21 ERA in his last three games (SEC Tournament, Regionals, and Super Regionals).
Florida’s offense can slug. They have hit 125 home runs, which is the 6th most nationally, and their offense in general is hot. At the plate the Aggies will be able to counter with their fair share of runs too (.973 Team OPS, 128 wRC+).
There is one caveat, though. We are expecting some strong winds coming in from the outfield, which would limit the long ball from both of these offenses. Both bullpens are good and could potentially get in the over’s way during the late innings. But the potential of two blowup starts is too strong not to test the over. If we see a first five inning total market, jump on that over.
The Bet: -115 Florida / Texas A&M Over 11
