MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – June 8
Atlanta Braves vs. Washington Nationals
First Pitch – 4:05 pm EST
Nationals Park – Washington, DC
Broadcast – MLB TV
We played this very matchup on Friday and it cashed for us. In fact, the two teams combined for just three runs in the game, which made it easy. While the pitching matchup is a touch worse on Saturday, I think it’s still good enough to get us out the first here.
The Braves have been ugly early on in games as of late. They can’t seem to get much going at all and facing MacKenzie Gore isn’t going to help matters. He faced the Braves just two starts ago and cruised to an easy win. He went 6.1 innings in that start with just one earned run and ten strikeouts. There’s no trend here that would suggest that he can’t get out of the first.
On the other side, 40-year old Charlie Morton takes the bump for the Braves. He threw 6.0 scoreless innings last time out and seemed to really find his groove. The Nationals are dead last in the majors in first inning runs at just 0.23 per game. They’re even worse at home, where they score just 0.19 per game. Morton may be a little questionable from time to time, but this seems like a spot for him to bring that NRFI home for us.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 8: No (-140)
Seattle Mariners vs. Kansas City Royals
First Pitch – 4:10 pm EST
Kauffman Stadium – Kansas City, Missouri
Broadcast – MLB TV
Alec Marsh’s last two starts are barely going to inspire confidence. He has two straight appearances of allowing five earned runs. However, some of that is facing teams that don’t strike out of a lot – which won’t be the case on Saturday. In fact, the Mariners strike out more than any team in the majors. Marsh actually faced them back in mid-May and struck out seven while holding them to one run over 5.0 innings. I think he gets us through the first again here.
On the other side, it might be a bit of a sweat as well. The Royals are a top ten team in terms of first inning runs and total runs on the season. However, they face Luis Castillo, who has been fantastic this year. His ERA sits at 2.99 and he has not allowed more than two runs in a game since April 8th. A scoreless outing last time out against the Angels only shows that he’s finding his legs and should be able to carry us to a NRFI here.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for June 8: No (-120)
