MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 31

Chicago White Sox vs. Milwaukee Brewers

First Pitch – 8:10 pm EST
American Family Field – Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Broadcast – ESPN+

The top half of the inning should be an easy start to the NRFI. The White Sox are the worst scoring team in the majors and by a wide margin. They are scoring 2.82 runs per game – which is 0.76 worse than the 29th ranked team (Seattle Mariners). That’s the same difference between the 29th ranked team and the 8th ranked team (Arizona Diamondbacks). That discrepancy shows just how futile this offense is.

In addition to the rough offense of the White Sox, they’ll face Tobias Myers. While that might not be a name that everybody is familiar with, he’s been quite good as of late. In his last three outings (9.1 innings), he’s allowed just two runs. He’s also recorded 12 strikeouts over that span.

On the other side, Chicago sends out their best starter this year in Erick Fedde. He carries a 2.80 ERA into Friday. He’s held his opponents scoreless in three of his last four starts, which includes 6.1 innings against the Orioles last time out. Milwaukee’s bats are strong, but I like Fedde’s chance to quiet them.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 31: No (-120)

Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle MAriners

First Pitch – 10:10 pm EST
T-Mobile Park – Seattle, Washington
Broadcast – Apple TV+

The Angels are a middle of the pack team in terms of both runs and first inning runs. That’s probably a touch better than they could have expected with Shohei Ohtani’s exit and Mike Trout’s injury. However, it shouldn’t be enough to get to Bryan Woo, who has been solid for the Mariners. His 1.66 ERA would put him at the top of the American League if he had thrown enough innings to qualify. I also like his ability to limit the deep ball – just one home run in 21.2 innings pitched.

In the bottom half we have the aforementioned 29th ranked offense of the Mariners. They are only ahead of the lowly White Sox in terms of scoring. Jose Soriano, who is on the bump Friday, has been decent for Los Angeles as well. In three of his last five starts he’s limited opponents to one or less runs. That span includes a one-run showing over 7.2 innings against the defending champion Rangers.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 31: No (-135)
