MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 30
Detroit Tigers vs. Boston Red Sox
First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Fenway Park – Boston, Massachusetts
Broadcast – NESN
You have to love what you’ve seen out of Jack Flaherty lately. After a bit of a rough start to the year, he’s really settled in. He has 6.0+ innings in each of his last five starts with no more than three earned in any of those. He seems to be using all of his pitches effectively and is keeping bats quiet early in the game.
The Red Sox haven’t been all that bad of an offense on the year, but also aren’t anything to write home about. They rank just outside of the top 10 in both runs and first inning runs. However, those are trending in the wrong direction. They haven’t scored a first inning run in the last eight games, which is a good sign for NRFI bettors here.
On the other side of things, the offense of the Tigers has been less inspiring. They rank in the bottom third of the league in first inning runs and are just 18th in total runs. Nickl Pivetta, much like the Red Sox offense, hasn’t been a world beater. However, he’s been good enough recently to get these Tigers out for a few innings.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 30: No (-150)
Washington NAtionals vs. Atlanta Braves
First Pitch – 7:20 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, Georgia
Broadcast – MLB TV
Reynaldo Lopez has been one of the very best pitchers in the National League on this short season. His 1.75 ERA puts him in a tie with Ranger Suarez for the best in the National League. The Nationals are in the bottom third of the league in terms of runs scored and are even a touch worse in the first inning. They’re ranked 29th in that category with just over a quarter of a run per first inning.
The Braves offense has been fairly anemic during this series with the Nationals. Even in the second game, which they won, they only managed a couple of runs. Now they’ll run into Trevor Williams, who has been solid for the Nationals. He’s rocking a 2.29 ERA on the year and has held opponents to one or less runs in six of the last seven games. All of that points to an easy bottom half of this NRFI.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 30: No (-115)
