Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 27

Whit Merrifield – Higher than 0.5 Total Bases

He’s hitting under the Mendoza line, but there’s a reason that I’m in on Merrifield to get on the board today. That reason is Blake Snell. Snell is one of the pitchers that Merrifield has seen the best over his career. He’s 7-for-12 lifetime against him with a 1.000 slugging percentage. If someone is going to help the Phillies outfielder find his groove, it could be Snell.

Blake Snell – Higher than 2.5 Walks Allowed

Speaking of Blake Snell, he’s a walk machine. He walked four last time out against Pittsburgh bringing his total up to nine walks in 15.0 innings pitched. Facing Philadelphia isn’t going to help matters. They rank second in the majors in drawing walks at 3.80 per game. Their patient approach should easily lead to Snell walking over this projection.

Freddie Freeman – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

Freeman is on a bit of a hot steak. He has hits in six of his last eight games and is loaded up with extra base hits in that span. In those games he has two multi-hot games as well as three doubles and two homers. This gives us a good chance to beat this projection with one swing.

However, even if he doesn’t get the extra-base hit, he’s been seeing Tylor Megill well enough that he might get a multi-hit game. He is a career 5-for-11 off of him, which yields a .455 batting average.
