MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 26
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Cincinnati Reds
First Pitch – 12:10 pm EST
Great American Ball Park – Cincinnati, Ohio
Broadcast – MLB TV
It is a tad risky any time you put the Dodgers in a NRFI situation – at least from an offensive standpoint. They’re 3rd in the majors in runs scored and a top ten team in the first inning. Both of those can make us sweat in the top half of this first inning. However, I low-key like the pitching matchup against them.
Brent Suter will be an opener against the Dodgers on Sunday. He’s opened one other time this year and held these same Dodgers to a scoreless first inning. He also carries a respectable 4.13 ERA into Sunday’s action. Plus, the idea of him being an opener against a good squad is definitely driving prices up.
The bottom half of the inning is a no-brainer. The Reds are in the bottom half of the league in run scoring and first-inning runs. Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been slipping a bit in his last couple of starts, but that’s only picked up his ERA to 3.17. Against an offense like this, he should easily shut the door to our NRFI.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 26: No (-115)
Baltimore Orioles vs. Chicago White Sox
First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
Guaranteed Rate Field – Chicago, Illinois
Broadcast – MLB TV
We rode this pairing yesterday to an NRFI, and the calculus isn’t all that different here. The White Sox continue to be a pathetic offense. They are scoring just 2.94 runs per game, which is not only the worst in the major but also worse than any team last year. In fact, it’s two-thirds of a run behind last year’s Athletics squad. Kyle Bradish and his 2.41 ERA shouldn’t sweat in this one.
As I said yesterday, the only sweat will come from the top of the inning and these solid Orioles’ bats. They’re top five in the majors in terms of run scoring. However, they have two things working against them. The first is that they aren’t great early in the game – they rank just 17th in first-inning runs. Second, they’ll face Garrett Crochet, who has had three straight scoreless outings and a 21-inning scoreless streak.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 26: No (-155)
