Underdog Fantasy NBA Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 22

Kyrie Irving – Lower than 4.5 1st Quarter Points

Early in the game, Iving hasn’t even been shooting all that much. In fact, over the last three games of the series with the Thunder, he took six total first quarter shots. He made just two of them and scored just four total points in the three games combined. Furthermore, he isn’t getting to the line at all. He attempted no foul shots in those games. Not sure why this projection comes in where it does or why we’d expect Irving to buck it here.

Rudy Gobert – Higher than 12.5 Rebounds

In the seven game series with the Nuggets, only six of which Gobert played, he beat this projection exactly half of the time. While that might not inspire confidence, we have to consider what was on the other side of the court. Over the regular season, the Nuggets were 4th in the league in limiting opponents’ rebounds. The Mavericks were 26th in that very category. Expect him to be more active on the boards in every game this series.

Dereck Lively II – Higher than 6.5 Rebounds

As I mentioned before, the Mavericks don’t often win the rebounding battle. However, one way that they tried to equalize those numbers late in the series was by deploying Lively to a more active role. After playing just 13 minutes in game one and 20 minutes in game two, he trended all the way up to 23 in game five and 30 in game six. The result was 25 rebounds in those two games. With a taller task in terms of boards in this series, I can’t see them rolling those numbers back.
