Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – May 7
Marcus Semien – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Semien didn’t have a hit on Monday, but that broke up a six-game hit streak in which he had twelve total bases. That comes out to 2.0 total bases a game in that stretch. Now, he’ll face a pitcher he’s enjoyed in the past. Ross Stripling takes the hill for the Athletics. The two have faced off 11 times, with Semien recording five hits. Three of those hits went for extra bases, giving him a .727 slugging percentage against the Oakland righty.
Reynaldo Lopez – Lower than 5.0 Hits Allowed
You can count me amongst those who thought moving Lopez to a starting role was a touch hasty and perhaps even foolish. However, Lopez has made me eat my words with performance after performance, which makes him look like a start for years to come.
He got stuck with a loss in a start against the Mariners last time out but only conceded six hits in that game. That’s the only time all year he’s been over this projection here. The Red Sox have been a middle of the pack hitting team, so I expect him to return to form at home Tuesday.
Michael Massey – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Don’t look now, but Michael Massey has the second-longest hitting streak in the majors. He has hit in nine straight games and has 12 hits over that time span. He’s also had an extra-base hit in five of his last six games, with three of them being home runs. I’m not sure I love the pitching matchup, but I love the way he’s swinging the bat.
