MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – May 5
Chicago White Sox vs. St. Louis Cardinals
First Pitch – 2:15 pm EST
Busch Stadium – St. Louis, Missouri
Broadcast – MLB TV
Garrett Crochet came out of the gate hard and looked like he might be one of the few bright spots on the White Sox. He soon came back to Earth with a few rough outings. However, last time out he returned to form, striking out seven Twins and holding them to two earned runs. If he keeps that form he should have no issue keeping the Cardinals at bay. They’re 28th in MLB in runs per game and are in the bottom five in getting YRFIs.
But as we know, getting an NRFI is a two-way street, which means Kyle Gibson will have to hold up his end of the bargain as well. He’s been great lately though. In each of his last three starts, he threw 6.0 innings or more and held his opponent to just one earned run. He also sparked up for nine strikeout the last time out. The White Sox are the worst runs scorers in the league by a wide margin, so let’s get down with another NRFI here.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 5: No (-110)
New York Mets vs. Tampa Bay Rays
First Pitch – 1:40 pm EST
Tropicana Field – St. Petersburg, Florida
Broadcast – MLB TV
Over his last five starts Luis Severino has only allowed more than one earned run one time. He’s locked in and it shows with his 2.31 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. The Rays, who usually seem to find a way to score runs, haven’t been doing so much this year. They rank in the bottom third of the league in both runs scored and first inning runs scored.
The Mets offense, particularly early in the game, hasn’t been great either. They’re one of the five worst teams in getting a YRFI and are 28th in MLB in runs scored in the first inning. Ryan Pepiot might aid in that NRFI action as well. He, like Severino, has allowed more than one earned run just one time in his last five starts. That also includes two scoreless appearances. That should give us what we need to cash this NRFI.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for May 5: No (-145)
